France Residence Permit

For most foreigners who are not from the EU, the European Economic Area or Switzerland, a France residence permit is generally required for stays longer than 90 days. Applicants typically need a valid passport, a long-stay visa, proof of accommodation, sufficient income and other supporting documents.

You should apply about 2 months before your visa expires. Without support, waiting times often reach 3 to 9 months. The application fee for a residence permit is generally €225 in France, including stamp duty paid via tax stamps.

Many non-EU citizens must first obtain a long-stay visa for stays over 90 days. A long-stay visa generally lasts from 3 to 12 months and can, depending on the case, be equivalent to a residence permit. For many applicants this starts with a VLS-TS, which you must validate within 3 months of arrival. If you continue to stay after one year, you must apply for a residence permit and keep valid status throughout the process.

We support the main categories: temporary permits, multi-year options and long-term 10-year cards (titre de séjour / Carte de Séjour). The Talent Passport is aimed at highly skilled profiles such as a qualified graduate, and some categories also cover investments. For financially independent applicants, the Visa Visiteur usually requires proof of about €1,800 monthly income as stable income. Some routes toward long-term residence or naturalisation may require a civic examination, integration standards and language knowledge.
